Deprived Life

A main philosophy of Jainism is to deprive one's self. In it's most extreme form, monks have no possessions and wear no clothing.

They are totally devoid of material possessions. Other sects wear white robes. The Jains I saw in the temple wore white robes.

Mahavira

About 600 BC, Mahavira was given credit with founding the main parts of the Jain religion. In the end, he finally starved himself to death, on purpose.
