Historical Fort

The amunt of money and effort expended to build this and other forts in Rajasthan was huge. People had to be very scared to put this much into it.

Now it lies baking in the Indian sun, gathering tourists by the bus load.

Package Tourism

There is quite a bit of package tourism at Jaisalmer, and in fact in much of Rajasthan. But you can still strike out on your own and venture into some rather interesting places. And almost always, within a five minute walk of the "famous" spots. Then, you will go into real India. Though I doubt you'll find it inside this fort. There, it's tourist stuff all the way. But still interesting for awhile.
